Autonomy in English Language Teaching and Learning During Secondary Education: A Study of Autonomous Language Learning Experience Recollections Among Engineering Students in a Sri Lankan State University

Autonomy is a central concern of language teaching and learning that has various sources wide-ranging implications. There are several advantages autonomous practices in country like Sri Lanka, where the English contexts non-egalitarian. concept impacts both teachers learners. It does not mean learners fully independent alone this practice. In reality, have prominent role fostering autonomy among learners, it process to be started at secondary education level. Mainly teachers’ willingness shift as Second Language (ESL) pedagogy from teacher-centered learner-centered mode significant context. This basis get school makes them lifelong which also minimizes reluctance difficulties using people all walks life. Realizing importance teacher’s learning, study focuses on collecting data through recollections 300 engineering undergraduates state university Lanka who had their schools island-wide. A questionnaire was distributed via link, collected were thematically statistically analyzed.
